Environmental Offender imprisoned for 4 months in QLD

A recent news story reveals that another person has joined the list of people who have been imprisoned for Environmental Offences.

In this case the offender was a manager of a sand and rock quarry.  The offences relate to falsification of details supplied in an application for two Environmental Authorities (EA’s). The nature of the falsification involved ticking the “N/A” box in the question relating to whether the requisite development permit had been obtained for these activities.

The sentencing took into consideration that the offender was unlikely to be able to be able to pay any fine imposed due to the fact that he was already in prison for an unrelated offence.

This case highlights the serious nature of any aspect of environmental compliance. All due care and attention is required with regard to environmental issues.
