Meet Our Team

Phil Abernethy – Director & Lecturer

Head Office Queensland

A self described environmentalist, Phil Abernathy is committed to helping improve the environment and is passionate at educating other like minded professionals in this area.

Phil is a Chemical Engineer with significant industrial experience in Line Management, Resource & Development and Plant Design and Construction

Wanting to put his skills towards environmental awareness, Phil Established  Absorb Environmental Solutions in 1996 and the company grew from a small warehouse in Brisbane to a national company supporting thousands of SHEQ managers and assisting them to keep their workplaces environmentally compliant.

Phil was instrumental in the creation of the Certificate IV in Environmental Management, the Diploma of Environmental Management, and Advance Diploma of Environmental Management.  This included writing all the course materials, manuals, and assessments

This led to Phil authoring and then publishing of the “Environmental Managers Toolkit”, which is a text book and resource for Environmental Managers and officers and is seen as the benchmark within the industry.

Phil has made significant contributions to the environmental performance of Absorb clients, and is one of the pioneers of the spill response industry and environmental management in industry generally.

The technical and practical knowledge that Phil has accumulated has led to the invention of a number of unique environmental products such as the Bund Filter and Blow Back Collar to name some example.
